Does anyone have any details regarding news around the Drake Atheltic Department staff? Rumor has it that Jean Berger is out and Mark Kostek is on the bubble.

FWIW, Berger is still listed in the staff directory.

I've never been real sure what Mark Kostek's actual position is.

I know that Bill Thompson (asst AD) recently retired....and he's still listed in the staff directory, too.

Kostek is one of the few from the Blank era that always is eager to talk and say hello. Very pleasant and likable guy.

That would surprise me a great deal but then this has certainly been a year full of surprises. If true, that's sad since Jean is very high quality person and administrator-hopefully she obtained a promotion elsewhere. Mark is very pleasant and, as far as my experience, competant. I'm completely out of the loop on this, have to hope there is more to the story. Thanks for the heads up McB

There's a local article about her replacement, Dennis Francois. He was the AD at Southern Oregon, an NAIA D2 school contemplating a transition to NCAA D2.

Francois cited an increase of 80 percent in scholarship support as one of the primary accomplishments in his three years, and, he said, "getting the weight room re-equipped was a major plus for all of our sports and the university as well." ... Francois pointed out other upgrades as well, including the scoreboard at Raider Stadium and an increased focus on external marketing revenue, which, according to the school's press release, has increased nearly 20-fold under Francois.

The story says that he started talking to Drake about the position in the summer, so Berger leaving must have been planned for some time. The story also says he has family in the area. He was born and raised in Iowa, and his wife is from Kansas City which is only two hours away from Drake (they must have gotten that travel time info from McBulldog).

Dennis Francois is not Berger's replacement. He has been hired as Director of External Affairs. This was a position that Kostek was in last year. Kostek has been moved to another position in the department and I am not sure what his title is.
Berger was the Senior Women's Advisor, that position has not been filled.

Couple other things I've heard this week. Monica is gone. I don't if she got another job or what the deal is but she did a great job. I think Cigelman (sp) is gone too.
