I can't read this story, but it looks like Drake has a verbal from Judd Welfringer, a 6-4 junior-to-be wing from Basha High School in Chandler, AZ (a Phoenix suburb). He had 13 ppg, 8 rpg, and 6.5 apg last year.

According to a tweet from tropicalshox (technically a retweet ), Drake was in Kansas City last night to watch Dillon Starzl. Starzl is a 6-8 post from Kearney, Mo, a small town outside of Kansas city.

This says Drake is pursuing Will Yeguette, a 6-7 forward from Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Fla. Scout gives him 3 stars, and ranks him as the 44th best SF prospect. He's drawing interest from some BCS-conference schools, and has an offer from SIU. This is what Scout says about him:

Hard-nosed forward who relies on his motor for success. Can rebound his area and in traffic. Could be a mid-range perimeter threat in college. Pursues basketballs hard and is tough to account for. Classic undersized, blue collar forward.

If that's true, sign him up.

Heard through the grapevine that we're in on this kid from South America. Apparently, he's a big guy with international experience, but I don't know any more than that. Anybody heard anything about him. I couldn't find him on Rivals or anything.

According to chicagohoops.com, Drake has offered Rayvonte Rice, a 6-3 player from Champagne, Illinois. His team recently won the state 3-A championship (4-A is the largest schools).

"I am just being patient with everything so I can make sure and pick the right school for me. As of now my top schools are Nevada, DePaul, Northwestern, Northern Iowa, Drake, Illinois State, and Cal Poly.

"I want to go to a school that I can go in as a freshman and play right away. Not saying I have to start but I do want playing time. I want to have a good relationship with the coaching staff and team. I want to get a good education as well."

Sounds like Drake is the right place for him. There will certainly be playing time available immediately for a point guard. The coaching staff and team are great people, and he'll get a good education.

So I wrote this long thread out, then it didn't post. Sigh. Well, anyway DJ Haley is 6-10 and 225 pounds. We want him at Drake and apparently, right now it's between Drake and Virginia Commonwealth, who he visited last weekend.

VCU went all out with a cheer "DJ Haley, Clap, Clap, clap clap clap.... this shows that not only did the students know he was there, they wanted him to go to VCU and made a point to let him know that.

We're going to do the same. I set it up so the students will hold up a sign during time outs...

NOW, what do the signs say?

Don't forget, we want to give the seniors a hearty sendoff as well.

Anyway, what are your thoughts??

Can anyone shed some extra light on DJ Haley? I was snooping VCU's board after someone posted that he was making a visit on Saturday. Drake really needs more depth down low with the undersized class coming in.

Cory Parker, a 6-7 forward from Aspen, Colo, has agreed to walk on at Drake. He is averaging more than 20 points and 6 rebounds a game for his 20-2 team. Last year he averaged 23.5 points and 9 rebounds, and was a unanimous choice for 3A Western Slope MVP.

Hoopmasters is reporting that Drake is in the mix for this young man. Chanse Creekmur is a 6-6 (weight not reported) wing/small forward from Marshalltown. Other schools listed besides Drake are Creighton, Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, and Washington State. He also plays on a AAU team, Net Gain Sports. There is also an article posted July 18th on Hoopmasters that lists him at 6-7.

I didn't see that anybody has ever mentioned this guy. He is a 6'3" or 6'4" shooting guard from Columbia Heights Minnesota who averaged 22.7 ppg his junior year. He apparently wants to go to Minnesota, but has not been offered. Drake is one of several schools he has mentioned as having recruited him. Scout gives him a 93.

This says Drake is among the schools that have offered Preston Purifoy. He's an athletic 6-5 wing from Conway, Ark. His description reminds me Leonard Houston. It sounds like he wants to go to Arkansas, and they've shown a lot of interest in him but haven't offered.

Scout.com has an article that says Drake is involved with Michael Bradley. Scout rates him at 4 Stars and the #16 center in the nation!

i say we bank it unless we can get a very good big. im concerned right now that we have way too many of our guys in 2 back to back classes, while this is great for a 1-2 yr stretch when they are upper classmen it also makes us have 1-2 yrs every 4 of rebuilding. i would like to try and split them up a bit where we could maintain success and not be up and down every few years, any thoughts?

Well, it's certainly been a very interesting (and good!) week for those of us Drake fans who follow the recruiting closely. We're still fairly early in the recruiting period, and Drake already has 3 of the 4 scholarships filled. The letter-of-intent period isn't for another 2 months.

Now, I have a feeling that we're going to have to wait at least a few weeks for any more recruiting news. I think most of are assuming that Coach will save that last scholarship for a big man. It looks like Threloff is visiting Illinois State next weekend and Western Michigan the following week. And, Michael Bradley is (I think) visiting UConn next weekend and Drake the following weekend. So, I'm guessing neither of those 2 guys is going to make a decision real soon.

Last year, DU had quite a few scholarship available. This year, too. Next fall, the 'dogs will have only 1 available, and we already know who's going to take that (Welfringer). Only one scholarship available the year after that, too.

So, it looks unlikely that Drake will have a recruiting week like this one for a long time, just because it's going to be several years until they have that many scholarship available again. It's kind of nice to know what 90% of the roster is going to look like even 3 to 4 years down the road.

Bulldogs head coach Mark Phelps extended the offer to Threloff while he was on an unofficial visit to the DesMoines campus. How has everybody been? Enjoyed my summer away from all things basketball and just been catching up on what has been happening for the Bulldogs. Seems like a hell of a recruiting class coming in next year and I was just curious about Jay Harris. I was reading Espn's recruiting page and it says that drake is among the interested on this 94 score PG.

I am out of the loop so I am going to bigger, better minds to let me know what's what about this recruit
