According to Scouthoops.com, Drake will have two players visiting this weekend....David Smith and Jarrod McCallum. Smith has been discussed on here previously. A google search provided no info on any Jarrod McCallum. There is a Ja'Rob McCallum who is a point guard from Indiana.....maybe that's who they meant.

One of the [Michigan's] top remaining seniors, 6-foot-7 Ben Simons of Cadillac, is in full official visit mode. He was at Drake this past weekend, and will go to Providence this coming weekend. Wake Forest is also scheduled to make a trip to Cadillac to watch him work out.

Phillips Exeter-Bound Class of 2009 star Josh Bartelstein is beginning to see his collegiate recruitment heat up. Drake of the Missouri Valley Conference is now involved with Penn, Holy Cross, Princeton Bucknell, Lafayette and Brown also in the mix for the 6'4" guard who is a "lights out" shooter from long range, and also has the ability to play either guard slot interchangeably.

According to a Rivals Network article that came out yesterday, Nixon seems to have Drake ranked high as he closes in on making his choice.

Knutson going to Lehigh and is homecoming king

Just came back from the Waukee game. When they announce Gabe as homecoming king, they said he was going to Lehigh. I talked to him briefly and he said that Drake hadn't offered him but he thought that Keno would've had he stayed since they had been recruiting them. He seemed pretty psyched about going to Lehigh. Best wishes to him.

Sorry if this is old info. I hadn't heard anything about it yet.

"Last week Drake was in to see Mike workout and Michigan has been in contact some as well. There is a South Dakota offer out there for Fitzgerald and DePaul has been mentioned as a possible four for five deal. Wofford had offered but they just gave a scholarship to Jamar Diggs who was finally released from Wayne State. Diggs has transferred to join former high school teammate Cameron Rundles at Wofford and his scholarship means there is no longer one open for Fitzgerald. Mike took up to seven visits over the summer including trips to Northwestern and Loyola-Chicago. At this time his next step is unclear."

"Northern Iowa, Marquette, Delaware, Providence, and Wright State have offered," said Wragge. Jay Parker is the younger brother of Josh Parker....he is currently a freshman at Thornton.

Rivals.com is listing 2 new prospects for Drake....both shooting guards....6-6 James Erger of Princeton, TX, and 6-4 Tony Nixon of South Holland, IL. According to their website, Drake has offered Nixon.

I really like what I've read about Nixon on the various Chicago basketball websites....he would be a very good get for DU.

Illinois State basketball coach Tim Jankovich and his staff probably will never have another recruiting week like this again. Late Sunday night, the Redbirds received their fourth verbal commitment in the last week when the mother of Chicago University High School guard Zeke Upshaw said her son will play at ISU beginning in the 2009-10 season.....Upshaw is a 6-foot-5 wing player who averaged 24 points and 10 rebounds per game last season for U-High. His mother said Upshaw picked ISU over Drake, with other offers from Evansville, Northern Iowa, Wagner, Albany, Kent State and Ball State.

Chanse Creekmur '10 WF ...

Hoopmasters is reporting that Drake is in the mix for this young man. Chanse Creekmur is a 6-6 (weight not reported) wing/small forward from Marshalltown. Other schools listed besides Drake are Creighton, Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, and Washington State. He also plays on a AAU team, Net Gain Sports. There is also an article posted July 18th on Hoopmasters that lists him at 6-7.

In a Rivals article written by Matthew Hatfield (VirginiaPreps.com) it states that this talented high schooler, Xavier Blount, is moving from New Mexico to Virginia to live with his Dad. His new high school coach in Virginia has coached some good players over the years that have moved up to the D1 level. His name is Mark Butts and the high school is First Colonial.

Butts quote -

"I actually told somebody he has the possibility of being the best player that I've ever coached," Butts stated. Why? "His versatility - he's more versatile than they are. All those guys brought great things to the table. He brings more to the table. Not that he can do one thing better than them, but he does many more things. That's a tough cover, and I'm seeing he's a matchup nightmare."

According to Rivals, Linn Mar's, class of '09, 6-6 185 lbs. shooting guard (3 stars) has Drake listed as one of the schools interested in the talented young man. He showed up on Rivals after an article by one of the national writers put together an article titled, "Top surprises from AAU Nationals". Nate is one of five players listed from the tournament in Orlando.

Frank Wiseler, former PG of Urspring Academy will join the Drake Bulldogs in the NCAA. The Missouri Valley Conference team will however need to wait one year before Wiseler will be eligible.

I think that's the German team that Iowa State's Lucca Staiger played for. I'm guessing he'll be on campus this fall to practice with the team, and will be eligible to play for three years starting in 2009.

Basically the article says that he plays for All Iowa Attack (AAU) and since the first tournament this summer his recruitment sky rocketed. Indiana State's Lansing just offered him and that is his first offer. His team has been winning tournaments and he recently attended a big man camp in Seedy Fauls. Also he claims to be in no hurry in making a desicion. He is listed at 6-9, 205 lb.s

If he wants to decide before his senior year: “I think it just depends on how July goes. If I can get it done before the season, that’d be nice if I was really comfortable with the school.”
