This win is just the first in a long string of what is ahead for Drake Football....Yes it was unimpressive....This is the start

You will soon see and learn just how terrific Coach Creighton is. I am a Drake Alum 76'. My son has played the last three yaers for Coach Creighton at Wabash so I am well acquainted with him. You have truly a very special Man in your midst.

I will be following Drake football quite closely now. I did not know I could get it on the radio? Where? I did watch the Play by play on the computer. I will not make any games this year as I will be traveling to all the Wabash games....but next year I will be there for some live games.

Best Wishes for a truly great season!!!

Comparing today's roster with a year ago, it seems that over 25 players left the program before their fourth year at Drake. I wonder how many of them will remain DU students.

The worst hit was Augie Agyei. How will Drake replace him?

The other departed starter is Nick Scott. There are a variety of opinions about him. I think he's much more replaceable than Agyei.

Injuries apparently ended the football careers of Isaiah Ellison and Alex Mau.

Several of last year's freshmen who were identified with the SAE problem are also gone. But considering Stoy Hall is still on the team, there may be other reasons.

Lots of QBs dropped out. With the Badovinac and Piatkowski coming on board, they could probably see the handwriting on the wall. Survival of the fittest.

DL Leon Drake and LB Dan Byers (son of a Drake football alumnus) are also gone. Too bad.

Drake Bulldog Corn Feed

Reservations are now being accepted for the annual Drake Athletic Department Bulldog Corn Feed, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the Drake Knapp Center, 2525 Forest Ave.

Football Coach Chris Creighton, along with Drake basketball coaches Amy Stephens and Mark Phelps, will preview their respective seasons following the dinner.

The event, which has been held since 1964, is open to the public.

Costs is $25 per person and can be paid either in advance or at the door. Fans are encouraged to make their reservations by e-mail at bulldog.rsvp@drake.edu or by calling 515-271-2889 no later than Aug. 19.

How would this be for (as Loney says) a preseason schedule?

1. A midwestern I-AA, as part of a home-home. See how many takers there are. If Drake made its terms clear, I think we'd have more in the queue than just Northern Iowa.

2. An NAIA from outside of Iowa. St. Xavier (Chicago) and Lindenwood (suburban St. Louis) are selective private schools with top-ten NAIA programs.

3. An Ivy League school. If they won't schedule us, then schedule (Wm) Penn or Cornell (College) and tell everyone we're scheduling an Ivy. I dare the Ivy Leaguers to complain about it. As an alternative, schedule a beatable, high profile I-AA, even if means long distance travel.

4. Missouri-Rolla (soon to become Missouri S&T...MST for short). They are a top-100 national university, and they've scheduled PFL schools the last few years. 'One of the few D-II schools with an academic reputation (Truman State is another).

Macke’s career with the company spanned 33 years, beginning in 1961 as a merchandise trainee at Dayton’s and culminating in his role as chairman and CEO of Dayton Hudson Corporation between 1984 and 1994. From 1977 to 1981, Macke served as chairman and CEO of Target Stores. NY Times

If anyone from Drake is reading this, the email asking me to post about this had been forwarded about a billion times with many attached emails. All of them were sure that Drake was going to do something in Mr Macke's honor. Maybe the University already has but I thought you should know that a ton of alumni hope that Drake pays some sort of tribute to Ken.

My prayers and thoughts go out to Ken's family and friends.

DU and Lehigh had been scheduled for 2001 & 2002, but Drake was pushed aside when Georgetown joined Patriot League football and Lehigh needed dates for them.

It is tough to find Drake's CURRENT sched. muchless something in the future. I know theer are always prblems because of the Pioneer, 1-AA, being in the mid-west, Cornell College versus Cornell University................. but I have no idea who we play in the future other than Dayton and Butler! Well sort of....

The Register has a story about Des Moines East's graduation. Scott Phaydavong was nominated as a speaker by the senior class.
