| How will flooding affect the NCAA Track & Field Championships later this week? I wasn't around here in '93, but I don't think the Drake campus will be affected unless something catastrophic happens. It sounds like downtown will be a mess, so that would affect anyone planning on staying in a downtown hotel or visiting a downtown restaurant or club. How hard will it be to travel between the airport and the stadium?

| Other than a detour around Fluer Ave by Gray's Lake, no effect. Listen to the emergency updates 3 times a day. Yes it will flood. Yes, Waterworks is safe. Yes, downtown will have power. How far is the stadium from the river? How high will the river have to get? I've been fighting this battle for a month on T&FN's message board. I talked to a Clemson coach after sandbagging a bit and he said wished he brought his team downtown to see the work people are doing to protect the buildings and give them a little perspective.
Clemson has one the fastest sprinters here this week in Travis Padgett. |

| I wonder if the NCAA media coordinator could tell us how the flood COULD affect the meet? I wasn't aware the NCAA was the source for flood coverage in the Des Moines area. I've been following information provided the NOAA, the National Weather Service, the Corps of Engineers, new flood stud Bill Stowe and the like.
Sorry to be cynical Mecha, but I don't understand the thread and understand less the NCAA's pronouncements about the flood. |
