| Reaching New HeightsRead an interesting column today in The Daily Herald. It was written by Mike McGraw, the Herald's beat reporter for the Bulls, who in my opinion is better than anyone at the Sun-Times or the Tribune that covers the Bulls. I'll quote the lines that make up the essence of the article. "No matter which team wins the championship, the two NBA finalists have sent a clear message-taller is definately better....to win big, teams need to play big....any 5 year old who has ever stood near a basket, realizes that height is a great advantage....maybe it's time to pull the plug on the small starting backcourt and also make a play to improve the height on the front line. The Lakers, Orlando and Boston are big on the inside and tall on the perimeter. There is room for an undersized player, but the count should stop at one. The players taking the majority of late-game shots for those teams can shoot over the top of most defenders. All three teams also have or had a taller defensive specialist." He goes on to talk about the Bulls backcourt of Gordon, Rose and Hinrich and alternatives to them by installing taller guards. He does note, however, that Gordon was only one of six guards who averaged at least 20 points a game and shot better than 45%. He also says, of course, if a guy can't play, height is irrelevant. Anyway, this article, of course, brought to mind our Mr. Phelps and the players, especially guards, that he has been bringing in and that he is currently looking at. Our "new look" big guards fit this article to a "T". Maybe he DOES have a plan. Not only are our new guys big, but they look to be top notch. By the looks of some of the new guards that he is currently looking at, he seems to be staying with the same tall theme. Well, Mr. Phelps, we all hope it's not a mission impossible.
The full article can probably be found on The Daily Herald web site. |

With all due respect, what does this have to do with the Capital City League?
Edit....here's a link, the one above does not seem to work.

| Only three days are listed? I hope there's more games than that. It looks like a lot of those leagues only have a few days listed. I wonder if there's some rule change that makes it hard a league to be certified for more than a few days.

I think the league is more than those 3 days, but I think those are the days that coaches are allowed to view the games.

The rosters are in the Register. Emmenecker was taken 1st overall, followed by Young. The rosters looks pretty good this year with I think every current Drake scholarship player and a ton of former Drake players in the league. The league runs 6/17 to 7/12.

Capital City Orthopaedics—Jimmie Binnie, Dayton; Ryan Sears, Creighton; Ryan Wedel, Drake; Scott Windom, DMACC; Kris Miller, William Penn; David Smith, Drake; Alex White, Drake; John Wolfe, Ellsworth; Josh Henry, Iowa Central; David Mataloni, Coe; Seth Light, Coe.
YMCA—Marquis Gilstrap, Iowa State; Adam Templeton, Drake; LaRon Dendy, Iowa State; Craig Stanley, Drake; Isiah Gandy, DMACC; Damon Smith, Ellsworth; Daniel Doyle, Graceland; Kevin Smith, Grand View; Courtney Walters, Iowa Central; Chad Boston, Southwestern; Andrew Dau, Simpson.

| Thanks for posting that, Mecha. I missed it when I glanced at the paper this morning.
20 current and former Drake players in the league is nice. Nice to see all the former Drake players in the league....I don't think there were any former players last year.

It depends on how many of those guys actually show up and when. I'm excited about the new guys and it looks like every team has them except AT and CS.
