| Thanks for your updates on how the Drake players are doing in the summer league. The information is much appreciated by out-of-towners like me.
Based upon what you have seen so far, what are your thoughts as to a probable starting lineup and overall depth chart for next season? |

| Drake72 (6/30/2009) Based upon what you have seen so far, what are your thoughts as to a probable starting lineup and overall depth chart for next season?
Hard to say. I haven't seen Stanley play this summer, so I don't know how his game has progressed. And, sometimes it's hard to extrapolate what you see in summer league to real game situations. I've seen guys look unstoppable in summer league who couldn't do anything in a real game. There was a kid from Grandview in the summer league the last few years who absolutely was unstoppable in summer league games.....and he barely could get off the bench for Grandview.
Based on what I've seen, I'd like to see a line-up of Wedel, Young, Simons, Hawley or Templeton, and Van Deest. I think that would be Drake's best offensive line-up, but I'm not sure how Wedel would do at the point with quick, tough defenders on him. I know he played a lot of point guard his freshman season at Arkansas State. No matter what, it's going to be a young, inexperienced front line, and interior defense and rebounding will be a big question mark.

| As of now,
PG: Wedel
SG: JY
SF: Simons
PF: Hawley
C: Van Deest
Others getting considerable playing time:
Templeton, Stanley, Wiseler, and Uhlenhopp or Sean Jones (hope Sean can play at the level, but if not, Uhlenhopp's big body will be nice down low). Bill Eaddy will get his few mins a game, but won't be much of a factor.
As it seems to me, the playground style of basketball that is played in the summer leagues doesn't seem to fit the style of play that Wiseler likes to play. He is an outstanding talent and I believe that he will look much better when playing with an offense. I still believe he is our best option at point guard for this year and the future.
Question: How do we play better?

| Drakey (7/1/2009) Those are scary lineups.
Just wondering, what do you think the lineup should be?

Actually Drakey, you have to agree that Van Deest and Simons are two of the best looking freshmen Drake has had for quite some time. The last two who I think could compare are Danielson and McDonald (and I like Van Deest much better at this stage). Despite the 2.0 disaster, that year ended up being very exciting. My biggest concern from a personnel standpoint is the back up 5 and point guard play.

| The object of the game is to score more points than your opponent. If you put Weidel, Young, Simons, Templeton on the floor at the same time, you have a very potent offensive line up. I know that AT didn't score much last year, but the kid can shoot. I believe he'll be a surprise to everyone next year. I wouldn't be surprised if Simons doesn't compete for FOY. I haven't seen Hawley play yet but I'm encouraged.

| I agree about AT. I'm hoping Coach P gets him the ball in the low post as well. He was the best back to the basket option on the floor last year, but never received the ball. Also, don't forget Van Deest. He is a scoring threat from the low post. I would not be surprised to see him get some newcomer of the year consideration. Is Wedel really an option at the 1? I have not seen anything from him in the open floor that makes me think he would start at the 1.

Just curious -- how does Wiseler's play compare to Emmenecker's play in the summer league when he was the same age? |

| Good question...I have no idea to the answer though.
I think the experience playing against quality players (even though the style of play isn't like it will be during the season) is the bigger thing now for him. He spent a year playing against only our own guys, which had to get boring after awhile. Having to play against a variety of players, many that are as good as what he will see during the year, will help shake off some rust.
