| | I can't stand it. Will would be the perfect final piece to the puzzle as MP's program moves forward. I could see him getting a lot of minutes as a freshman. |

| Sorry, I was in a rush to get the story out. Perhaps I should have reworded the question. I was trying to suggest that since Will has attracted some attention from power-conference teams (such as USC and VaTech) it could be interesting how it affects his decision. I have no doubt Drake can draw Will's attention away from the smaller schools. Can Drake compete with these BIG schools? What does everybody think?
--Thanks for the feedback everybody! It's much appreciated. |

| Tim.
The Valley hasn't seen anyone like MP for years.
He has shown he will compete with anyone.
I know Drake assistants recruit, but it appears that MP does the heavy lifting.
Two Requirements:
1. he has to want a good education, including a desire to graduate.
2. Wants to play for a Division 1 program with the intent of becoming a Butler/Xavier/Gonzaga.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "compete." This fall, Drake was on the final list for Michael Bradley, some sources of which say the young man's decision was between Drake and UConn. While Bradley eventually chose UConn, I would certainly say Drake "competed" for the recruit. Drake has a lot to offer that these basketball factory-like schools don't. You get a great education with personal attention from the professors themselves, not a bunch of graduate assistants. There is a family atmosphere on campus, President Maxwell routinely interacts with students. In addition you can come to a quality program that has a very bright future. All a recruit has to do is to look at the last few games and he'll get a glimpse of what the coming years will be like on the floor -- aggressive play, bodies flying up and down the floor, lock down defense, great outside shooting. Who would not want to be part of something like that?

| By the way, our buddy Mike is averaging 6 points a game and 7 rebounds....hardly All American numbers. I predict that he'll be Uconn's Sean Jones.

Or like the guy that transfered from UCONN to K-State. I don't see UCONN sticking with 4 year benchwarmers. |

This probably belongs in a different post, but if MB becomes SJ2, does Drake use a schollie on him when he is looking to transfer?

I don't think you can make that call at this point, we need to see where we are and you would be looking at a year sitting out to play 3 for Mike. You never know which rabbit MP will pull out of his hat this spring.

| OK....I have unlocked the Michael Bradley thread, so we can discuss him over there. Just don't want to completely derail this thread about Will Yeguete by having it turn into a discussion on a guy who didn't choose Drake.

| I am glad we have a shot at Will instead of MB. Will sounds like the kind of player who can help immediately and form an important role on this team right away. Doesn't appear to be the case with Bradley.

I see in the message board thread in the attached link that Indiana fans consider Oklahoma to have the lead on Will...having made three visits already...
I think this a VERY solid prospect that is VERY worth our pursuit. To me...gone is the notion that it is "critical" for us to get a "big." I think Van Deest has exceeded expectations (meaning...I think he's got the goods...to be an all-conference big on his own merits). Somebody that can step into the role that has been created by Templeton's desire and prowess on the boards and post defense would be a perfect addition to the guard-rich mega prospects we've got joining the ranks the next two years. Save the "big" scholly for the next year...giving great spacing two years behind Seth.
Will...the only thing missing is you letting us know that you think Drake is as great a fit as we think you would be. Schedule a visit...and the rest will take care of itself!
Just DU it !

| Will, did you say you want a great academic institution and a place to get PT right away?
Drake is your new American family.

| Florida Air Academy senior forward Will Yeguette averaged 15.5 points/game in two games last week as his team beat Monsignor Edward Pace 51-46 before falling 60-53 to Rock School. Yeguette has now scored in double figures in all but one game this season and is averaging 17.8 points/game this season.
Also... I'm not sure when this was, but it said Will had 19 rebounds in a 12 minute stretch during one game. |

| Rivals no longer lists Drake among the schools that Yeguette is considering.
